MANAGEMENT OF PRISONERS UNDER THE NGUYEN DYNASTY IN THE SOUTH (1802 - 1841)

Abstract

Drawing on historical sources such as Nguyen Dynasty Imperial Archives, the Official Compendium of Institutions and Customs of Dai Nam, the Royal Laws of Vietnam and the Essential Matters of Minh Menh's Reign analyses the Nguyen Dynasty's prisoner management measures in the South during 1802-1841. In the South during this period, in addition to containment and criminal measures applied to prisoners, the imperial court also strengthened labour and incentive policies.
