Abstract

The Mekong Delta supplies over 90 percent of the exported rice output for the whole Vietnam, and the peasant household‘s economy also plays a major role of the rural economic structure. We assume that economic behavior plays a decisive role in the increasing or decreasing of the household’s economy. According to a survey in Tien Giang and An Giang provinces about the peasant households economic situation of the year 2013 in comparison with the year 2012,: 2,7% of the total households was much better, 34,6% of them was better, 34,6% of them was the same as previous year, 24,8% of them was worse, 3,3% of them was much worse.  This article originates an in depth-interview information from standard peasants in An Giang in 2012 and 2014 (within two research projects). They represents those who are good at farming techniques, sensible to market, keen on farming, investing, willing to learn new techniques and diversify livelihoods or specialized productions… Each type of economic strategy has its advantage and these peasants have achieved great success in their options.
