LABOUR MIGRATION IN THE ASEAN REGION: CASE STUDY OF VIETNAMESE WORKERS IN THAILAND

Abstract

Sofar, studies on labor migration in Vietnam have often focused on domestic or labour export-oriented international migration, ignored the flows of undocumented labour migration between the neighboring ASEAN countries. This paper aims to provide an analysis of these undocumented migration flows from Vietnam to Thailand. The main issues in this paper include: incentives of Vietnamese migrants; the context of undocumented Vietnamese migrant workers; and their difficulties and risks they face with in Thailand. From above analysis, this paper contributes to the development of new research directions on policies of undocumented labour migration management.
