Abstract

After World War I, the intellectuals of Cochinchine increased both in number and influence, forming various clubs and organizations. They actively participated in political activities, ranging from clandestine operations to overt movements. Key intellectuals emerged in Cochinchine, and political parties were established, which fueled the intellectuals’ political movement, aligning with the broader liberation demands. Following the war, the Cochinchinese intelligentsia gradually became more involved in the political arena, asserting their presence and culminating in the peak of the movement in 1926. The events of 1926 highlighted the significant maturation of Cochinchinese intellectuals in nationalist thought, their capacity to organize the masses, influence public opinion, and form political parties. These efforts were instrumental in transforming Cochinchine into a focal point of resistance against French colonialism, leaving a profound impact on the national revolutionary movement.
