Abstract

The South of Viet Nam was particularly important to the Nguyens during the establishment of the dynasty as well as the protection of national sovereignty. In this region, the Nguyen dynasty had to deal with aggression and political instability. Thus, under Nguyen dynasty in general and under Gia Long and Minh Mang King in particular, the court had implemented a number of special treatment policies and applied flexible rewards and punishments to the mandarins. These treatments provided dedicated and high-qualified mandarins to serve the court, and to firmly defend sovereignty in the remote South of Viet Nam.
