EDUCATION OF HOA PEOPLE IN SAIGON - CHOLON DURING THE PERIOD OF 1900 - 1954

Abstract

The paper focuses on some educational activities of Hoa people in Saigon from 1900 to 1954, including: the policy of the French colonial government on education for Hoa people; the learning system, school curriculums, textbooks, and development stages of the schools for Hoa students. The educational activities of Hoa people were strongly supported by the community of Hoa people, especially Hoa merchants. Besides, the French colonial government as well as the Chinese government (specifically, from the Republic of China before 1949 and from Taiwan after 1949) provided schools for Hoa people with favorable conditions and assistance in school curriculums and textbooks. The research on the educational activities of Hoa people during the above-mentioned period aims to find out the appropriate measures to preserve and develop the culture of Hoa people in South Vietnam from 1900 to 1954.
