LEARN ABOUT THE POLICY OF TALENT RECOMMENDATION IN TỰ ĐỨC DYNASTY

Abstract

The Tự Đức Dynasty was a feudal dynasty faced with many difficulties in Vietnam’s history. To hope to overcome the dangers that come from outside and inside the nation, the court made efforts to find solutions, among which, recruiting talented people for the dynasty were considered top priority. Beside selecting talented people from the examination system, the Tự Đức Dynasty tried to get talented people through the policy of talent recommendation. The article mainly uses material from Đại Nam thực lục (Veritable Records of the Great South) to learn this policy of Tự Đức Dynasty, thereby providing an additional perspective on the political situation of this dynasty, contributing to understanding one of the causes of the imperial court's failure in the situation that hadn’t happened before in the history of the country and the region.
