ARCHAEOLOGICAL DATA AND INTERPRETATIONS OF THE GO OC EO SITE: RESULTS OF THE 2018-2019 EXCAVATIONS

Abstract

The article synthesises and analyses the results of archaeological excavations at the Go Oc Eo relics (An Giang) conducted by the Institute of Archaeology in 2018 and 2019, combining them with previous research to clarify the characteristics of the stratigraphy, relics, etc., and the date and nature of the relics. On the basis of archaeological findings and chronological documents, the article identifies Go Oc Eo as a general relic, a residence, a religious centre, a handicraft workshop, and an important trading port of the Oc Eo culture. The research results help supplement awareness of the formation and development of the Oc Eo - Ba The centre, as well as the role of this area in the international trade network of the this period.
