Abstract

This article examines Hegel’s philosophical thought in relation to contemporary debates on gender and race within the context of identity politics. The focus of the research is the concept of recognition (Anerkennung) as an ontological category of self-consciousness, developed through the Master-Slave dialectic, in which the subject attains reality only through a reciprocal relationship of recognition with another subject. At the same time, the article emphasises that the current re-admission of Hegel is inseparable from the historical limitations of the system, especially the imprint of patriarchal culture and the Central European perspective. Furthermore, the analysis shows that the dialectical nucleus of recognition still provides an important conceptual framework for identifying forms of exclusion in contemporary socio-political life.
